People all over Pakistan are worried due to the consistent increase in electricity bills. There are many reasons for the increase in bills. Nowadays, the use of heavy electrical appliances has increased which makes your meter run fast and this also makes your bill higher. Apart from this, if the electrical appliances are not in use but are on from button then they are still consuming electricity, this can also be a reason for the high bill.
Weather is also a factor which affects the amount of your bill, like in summer season there is continuous use of AC and in winter there is more use of electrical appliances which are heat dissipating. A table of devices, including quantity, units used, watts and power savings, is given below.

Reduce Energy Leakage:
In our daily life, there are countless things that are plugged in and we don’t even know about them but they are still on, like mobile chargers, laptop chargers, lights, TV etc. Now make it a habit to switch off any device or appliance plugged in that is not needed. This will be the first step towards reducing your bill.
Reduce Electricity Consumption During Peak Hours:
In Pakistan, NEPRA has set different peak times for each city. In urban areas of Pakistan, peak hours are between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM, while in rural areas, this peak hours is between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM. You can reduce your electricity bill by minimizing your usage of electricity during this time.
Use of LED Bulbs:
You can also reduce your electricity bill by using new LED bulbs as they use 90% less electricity than our traditional bulbs. It’s a simple, but very effective tip to reduce your electricity bill.
Heat Proofing of Your Roof:
In summer, as the temperature rises, we have to use AC and air coolers in our homes. You can control your home temperature to a great extent if you whitewash your roof. White color reflects the sunlight, which reduces the temperature of your roof, and it does not allow the temperature to rise too much inside the house. Thus this help reducing the number of electrical appliances used and reducing your electricity bill.
Use of Solar Energy:
Solar energy has become a huge trend in Pakistan as the tariff and taxes on electricity bills have become high. Solar energy is an excellent solution to reduce your bills. This is a one time investment in which you get your solar panels installed. If you get a green meter installed then you can also sell the extra electricity produced to WAPDA.
Use Heavy Appliances Wisely:
If you have heavy electrical appliances in your home like AC, refrigerator, oven, washing machine etc., use them wisely. If all these appliances run together, there will be a heavy load on your IESCO electricity meter and this will also increase your electricity bill.
